Set your expectations honestly: even fully upgraded, the Gem Mine tops out at roughly five gems a day. It’s a trickle, not a fountain. But it’s a trickle that never stops, costs you nothing after the upgrades, and carries zero risk. Pour Builder Base gold and elixir into leveling it up when you can, because every level raises both its output and its storage cap.
The one thing that wastes it is neglect. The Mine stops producing once its small storage fills, so if you only visit the Builder Base once a week you’re leaving gems on the table. Tap in and collect whenever you’re already over there running Versus Battles, and it stays productive.
Do the math over time and it clearly pays off. A handful of gems a day is well over a hundred gems a month you didn’t have to buy or risk anything for. Combined with everything else here, that passive stream quietly funds a builder or a resource boost every so often.
Clear Obstacles and Hunt Down the Gem Box
Trees, bushes, rocks, and logs spawn on your village over time, and clearing them does more than tidy the place up. Most obstacles cost a little elixir and a few minutes of builder time to remove, and each one has a small chance to drop anywhere from zero to six gems. Individually that’s pocket change, but it also feeds the “Nice and Tidy” achievement, so it’s never wasted effort.
The real prize is the Gem Box — a special obstacle that appears roughly once a week and drops a guaranteed 25 gems when cleared. It costs a chunk of elixir and a builder to remove, but 25 gems for a few minutes of work is the best obstacle deal in the game. Check both your home village and your Builder Base, since Gem Boxes can spawn in either.
Here’s the trick most players miss: obstacles only spawn on empty tiles. If your base is packed edge-to-edge with buildings, walls, and decorations, the game has nowhere to place new trees — or a new Gem Box. Deliberately leave a few open squares inside and around your layout so obstacles keep spawning and your weekly Gem Box actually has room to appear.
Then keep the area cleared. Obstacles cap at a maximum count, and once you hit it nothing new spawns — including that Gem Box. Seasonal events also drop themed obstacles that sometimes pay a little extra, so clear those promptly too.
Milk Clan Games and In-Game Events for Recurring Gems
Solo play only gets you so far. Clan Games, which run for about a week every month, are one of the most reliable repeating gem sources in Clash of Clans. You and your clanmates complete challenges to fill a shared points bar, and each tier you unlock lets you pick a reward — the higher tiers regularly include gems alongside magic items and potions.
The single best thing you can do here is join an active clan that reliably pushes Clan Games to the maximum tier. In a dead clan you’ll unlock two tiers and shrug; in a committed one, the whole roster blows through every tier and everyone claims the top rewards. Your gem income is directly tied to the company you keep.
Watch the event calendar, too. Supercell runs regular in-game events and season challenges, and gems turn up as rewards more often than casual players realize.
